USPHL Elite Players Of The Week: South Region

Week of Sept. 22, 2022

Southeast Division 

Forward: Zarand Varga, Potomac Patriots 

Varga (‘04/Hungary) has enjoyed his new life in North America, scoring eight points already in his first two games off three goals and five assists. 

 

Defense: Ian Dracoulis, Richmond Generals

The Generals’ ice time leader against Hampton Roads, the third-year General Dracoulis averaged 23:17 in each of the two wins to help the Gens go 4-0 out of the gate, a strong statement by the defending Elite National Champions. He posted a goal and three assists on the weekend. 

 

Goaltender: Andrew Zang, Charlotte Rush

Zang (‘04/Carrollton, Texas) had a strong debut for the Rush with 32 saves on 35 shots in a close 4-3 victory against their in-state rivals the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes. 

 

Florida Division 

Forward: Jacob Godbout, Florida Eels

The 2004-born Amos, Que., native has been monstrous out of the gate, putting up four goals and three assists for seven points over their three-game sweep of Atlanta last weekend. After posting two goals and an assist in the first two games, he put up a hat trick and an assist in the third. 

 

Defense: Carter Trussler, Tampa Bay Juniors

Trussler (‘06/Land O’Lakes, Fla.) has already been an impressive newcomer in his first junior season out of Mitchell High School. He had a goal and two assists, was a +6 and had 21 takeaways in his first weekend, a sweep against the Palm Beach Typhoon. 

 

Goaltender: Daniel Van Brunt, Columbia Infantry

The ‘05 from Smithtown, N.Y., has started out very well with a 2-0 record and a .948 save percentage to kick off his junior career, coming from a very strong Long Island Gulls program.
